Projects we have been working on

2022

Four Cornerstones Approach/Guiding Voices Training Event

The aim of the event was to give knowledge to practitioners on SEND and for them to use what they have learnt with the children and young people they engage with.

We presented and created games for the practitioners to take part in.

Below is some of the feedback we received:

What a credit to Rotherham you are.

Well done, fantastic event. Hannah Hall

Some of the best and most engaging training I’ve ever been involved in. Lots of ideas and knowledge to take away that I know will be relevant to the young people I serve because it has come from young people themselves. Thank you

Supporting Rotherham Inclusion Panel

We were asked to work together with Kelly Crompton who is the Strategic Lead for Inclusion Service in Rotherham to help schools and practitioners think of strategies they could use to help other young people.

Special Educational Needs Support Video

We were asked to develop an online training tool to offer knowledge on SEN Support and to share our experiences explaining what SEN support means to us.

See how we made the video

Attended SEND Strategy Board

Two of the group attended the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Strategy Board to introduce the work we are supporting and developing.  We highlighted the need to not only listen to the voices of young people but also show how their voices had been listened to and had influence.

Developing Preparing for Adulthood Minimum Standards document for young people in Rotherham

We worked with Adult Care, Housing and Public Health, and Children’s Commissioning to help guide the creation of the minimum standards document for young people in Rotherham

Special Educational Needs Support Video

We were asked to develop an online training tool to offer knowledge on SEN Support and to share our experiences explaining what SEN support means to us.

Joined the Local Offer Sub-Group meeting

Meeting with Nathan Heath the assistant Director of Education for Rotherham Council

We Introduced the group to Nathan and explained to him what the group is working on

2021

Working with other groups

We have worked with other groups on their projects. For example, some of us contributed to designing an animation around hate crime; developing a video about Education, Health and Care Plans for young people; and made the Inside Our Heads animation about our feelings and showing what is going on inside people’s heads with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Designing our website pages

We created Guiding Voices website pages from scratch, and thought of the Guiding Voices name and logo. The pages are for giving everyone a voice, making it available to everybody, and showing their emotions through creative ways.

Working with Ofsted

We spoke with Ofsted about how to collect voices from SEND young people. We helped them to think about what is accessible and what they can do to help different communities.

Creating support tool for schools

We are currently working on a project to create a tool which shows how support in school can help children and young people with SEND.

2020

Creative work

We have used creative ways to show how we feel and make sure that even if people are not comfortable talking, they can still have a voice.

Supporting each other

We signpost to where people can get help. We do friendly collaborations with other young people to bring creative minds to life. We aim to inspire young minds to be able to speak out about their lives/mental health and telling their stories through art.
