Families, schools, and education settings across Rotherham now have access to a new Threshold of Need documents, designed to provide clear guidance on the support available for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in Rotherham.
These documents have been developed by Rotherham Borough Council’s SEND department in line with Department for Education guidance. They outline the support that should be in place and at what level, to ensure children and young people with SEND receive the help they need to thrive.
This new framework will help families, schools, and practitioners to:
- Understand the types of support available at different levels of need.
- Strengthen working together to provide the right help at the right time.
- Ensure consistency across education settings in Rotherham.

Schools and settings have been sent these documents and they can be used when discussing your child or young person’s needs. They can help in working together to get the right support for your child or young person.
